Child Of Venus

Child Of Venus

Constantly battling with gender norms, Felix often finds themselves in positions of discomfort, confusion, and fear while grappling with their inherent feminine energy, the perceived masculine exterior, and the societal expectations that come with those. Raised in a family consisting primarily of strong women, femininity was embraced and the rituals of making oneself beautiful filled young Felix with intrigue and admiration. Unfortunately, it was something they were discouraged from exploring or expressing. From a very young age, they were taught that even the mannerisms or interests they had were wrong, that they were wrong, that being who they were naturally was something that they should hide for their own safety. Femininity was a symbol of strength, beauty, and resilience but it was tainted and instead was channeled as fear, disgust, and shame.
Child of Venus is a celebration of self acceptance and a physical representation of the explosion of joy that comes with allowing yourself to be authentically you. Showcasing small snippets of everyday life and how impossible it is to hide ones individuality and identity, this series both celebrates and highlights uniqueness that still to this day comes along with fear for ones safety in the public. Most importantly, it is a love letter to all of the women and other femme icons who played such a pivotal role in their journey.
